摘要 | Diatom in diatomite has a unique pore structure, which makes diatomite widely used in environmental protection, medicine, construction and other fields. One of the most important means of modification and purification of low-grade diatomite in industry is to calcine with flux to remove iron and other impurities, as well as to improve the permeability and whiteness of diatomite. However, the adsorption capacity of the treated diatomite is usually reduced greatly, resulting in the limited application in related areas. In this study, a novel diatomitebased absorbent material by hydrothermal modification was prepared by using the flux-calcined diatomite and lime (CaO) as raw materials, and the reaction mechanism was investigated. Compared with ordinary flux calcined diatomite, the methylene blue (MB) adsorption capacity of the modified diatomite prepared by CaO hydrothermal modification increased from 1.58 mg/g to 12.55 mg/g, an increase of nearly 7 times. The results of X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and nitrogen sorption-adsorption analysis indicated that the newly formed calcium silicate hydrategels, xonotlite and calcite were successfully synthesized on the surface of the calcined diatomite. The formation of calcium silicate hydrate gels and xonotlite was the results of the hydrothermal reaction of CaO and SiO2, while calcite was the product of the reaction of CaO and residual flux, Na2CO3. The presence of calcium silicate hydrategels and xonotlite on the surface of materials could effectively increase its specific surface area and total pore volume. Not only the increasing of specific surface area, but also the enhancement of negative potential after activation contributed to the adsorption capacity promotion in adsorption test, which was proved by PZC test. |
