摘要 | Design of circular polarization (CP) antennas requires accounting for several and normally conflicting objectives that include ensuring sufficient impedance bandwidth and low level of axial ratio (AR). For an increasing number of modern applications, reduction of the antenna size becomes of importance. Design closure of CP antennas is often carried out having in mind electrical and field properties, whereas miniaturization is a byproduct of introduced topological modifications. In this paper, we apply multi-objective optimization as a tool for generating the best possible design trade-offs for a compact CP antenna with respect to its reflection response, axial ratio and the size. A particular example of a planar microstrip structure with elliptical ground plane slots and dual feed line stubs is considered. Surrogate-assisted optimization framework allows for finding a set of Pareto optimal designs at a low computational cost, giving the designer an insight into the capabilities of the antenna, particularly in terms of relationships between achievable miniaturization ratio as well as the axial ratio and reflection bandwidths. For the considered example, it is possible to reduce the antenna size by over 11 percent while maintaining required AR bandwidth, or reduce maximum in-band AR to 1.3 dB while ensuring required impedance bandwidth. |
