摘要 | Galvanically isolated DC-DC converters are gaining more attention in the industry due to the increasing demands in automotive, industrial, powerline, and medical applications. They are widely used to provide protection between different domains while being able to transmit power through the barrier. Traditional discrete solutions can provide watt-level power with 70-80% efficiency, however, the use of bulky transformers becomes the primary bottleneck to be further miniaturized to package-level. Recently, emerging research in both industry and academia has led to developing in-package solutions with micro-transformers [1-5]. However, special processes are needed for isolation between the windings in silicon/SOI substrate and to build the magnetic core [2-4], which are expensive and not widely available. The efficiency was also degraded and peaked at only ∼53% [5] in state-of-the-art works. In addition, many applications require multiple rails to support, e.g., multiple gate drivers or other loading circuits such as sensors and data transceivers. This is achieved by either using multiple converters or stages, which results in an increase in cost and form-factor or further degradation in efficiency. [6] introduced an active rectifier supporting two outputs, but it was for wireless power transfer systems and its voltage regulation was achieved only at the receiver (Rx) side, while the transmitter (Tx) was working in open loop. |
