摘要 | Rigid piles are prevalent in offshore engineering, and the utilization of the failure envelope approach in foundation design is a burgeoning trend. Nevertheless, in contrast to shallow and skirted foundations, the exploration on the failure envelope for deep-embedded foundations remains comparatively scant. Notably, among the existing failure envelopes for rigid piles, scant attention is paid to the soil strength gradient, which is a pervasive aspect of self-weight consolidated seabed. Therefore, this study endeavors to develop a failure envelope for offshore rigid piles under combined horizontal-moment loading in clay with linearly increasing undrained shear strength. This endeavor is achieved by employing an inclined ellipse framework and separately deriving the characteristic parameters against corresponding failure mechanisms. Subsequently, validation against FELA cases and tests reveals that the proposed equations effectively capture the essential characteristics of the failure envelope and offer fair predictions in terms of bearing capacity. Furthermore, comparative analyses with previous solutions underscores the superiority of the proposed method in scenarios involving rigid piles and linearly increasing soil strength profiles. Additionally, a parametric analysis demonstrates that as the soil strength gradient intensifies, the long axis of the failure envelope presents a notable expansion, emphasizing the imperative of incorporating the soil strength gradient in practical design considerations. |
