This study investigates experimentally the fluid-structure-acoustic interaction characteristics and mechanisms of a cylinder with an attached flexible splitter plate. Synchronized measurements of far-field noise, near-field pressure fluctuations, flow field, and deformation of the flexible splitter plate were conducted using far-field microphones, surface microphones, particle image velocimetry (PIV), and digital image correlation (DIC) technique. Additionally, static pressure on the cylinder surface was measured. The experimental results indicate that the attached splitter plate not only reduces the drag force on the cylinder but also attenuates the tonal noise associated with vortex shedding. The most effective noise reduction is achieved when the splitter plate length is equal to the diameter of the cylinder. Measurements from surface microphones on the cylinder reveal a significant reduction in pressure fluctuations with the splitter plate attached, which is ascribed to the delay in vortex shedding caused by the splitter plates. Based on the simultaneous flow field measured by PIV and the displacement field measured by DIC, a three-dimensional fluid-structure interaction field can be obtained.
